Our History

International work started at Brook Hollow in 1984. Since then, the department has ministered to members and visitors from over thirty nations from around the world.

English as a second language is taught on Sunday mornings, during the Sunday School hour, on three levels - beginner, intermediate, and advanced. While teaching English as a second language (ESL) is not a unique idea in the Nashville area, we may be the only program offering classes on Sunday mornings. This time was chosen so that the entire family, including men, women, and children, could be involved together.

Students who come are also eager to learn of American culture, and through the sharing of our language and our day to day experiences - our culture - we have the opportunity to share God's love in a personal and very wonderful way. We at Brook Hollow also have the opportunity to learn the cultures of the countries represented by those who attend our program.

Our Internationals have been involved in many aspects of our church, including participation in our adult and children's choirs, providing instrumental music for our worship services, and forming their own chorus and handbell choir, which have all enriched our worship experience. Many of them have also placed their children in our children's weekday program.

We at Brook Hollow are grateful for the opportunity of working with these very gracious and remarkably talented people who are also willing to share their life's experiences with us. Thank you, Brook Hollow church family, for making all this possible.
